ORION NEBULA

I show this image not because it is a great photo but because it is my own! I know there are many extraodinary images of this nebula but this is what I saw from my backyard with a simple setup and unmodified DSLR; at my very first attempt!  It blows me away that we can look up and see such extraodinary things despite how ordinary our individual lives may seem.

Orion’s Sword comprises three stars (42 Orionis, Theta Orionis, and Iota Orionis) and M42, the Orion Nebula, which together are thought to resemble a sword or its scabbard. This group is “below” the prominent asterism, Orion’s Belt.
